DIY doggy biscuits

It's no secret I'm totally in love with my pup, Louie, so naturally I only want the best for him - the best toys, the best dog parks, the best food, the best treats, etc.  If you know anything about dog food and treats, they often contain unhealthy ingredients (much like processed human food).  In an attempt to prolong my dog's life by 100+ years (What? I want him to live for-ev-er), I feed him packaged chow made with wholesome, pure ingredients.

While I don't foresee myself becoming my pup's full-time personal chef anytime soon, I did decide to try my hand at making homemade dog biscuits. Overall, the peanut butter doggy treats I made were rather easy and inexpensive and to top it off, Louie loves them. (Recipe below)

Peanut Butter Doggy Biscuits
1/2 cup peanut butter
3 cups brown rice flour
2 tbsp vegetable oil
1 cup water

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Mix all ingredients in med-size mixing bowl until well blended.  Add extra water if needed.  Either drop by rounded spoonfuls onto cookie sheets OR roll dough onto mat (use extra flour if dough is too sticky to roll) and use cookie cutters to make bones or other fun shapes.  Bake 20-30 min depending on size/thickness.

They make great gifts..

..and taste delicious!

  1. this is great! but for cats what can I bake?

  2. Good question! I searched around a bit and found a great looking cat treat recipe on

    Savory Cheese Treats

    3/4 cup white flour
    3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
    5 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
1/4 cup plain yogurt or sour cream
    1/4 cup cornmeal

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Combine cheeses and yogurt. Add flour and cornmeal. If needed, add a small amount of water to create a nice dough. Knead dough into a ball and roll to 1/4 inch. Cut into one inch sized pieces and place on greased cookie sheet. Bake for 25 minutes. Makes 2 dozen.

Let me know how they turn out if you make them :)

I love hearing from you. Thanks for the comments!
