Two trends that are hot right now: starburst mirrors and "going green". I decided to combine the two and craft (yep, you probably guessed it) a starburst mirror out of recyclable materials.
I've been collecting toilet paper rolls ever since I saw the impressive toilet paper roll wall art. Not wanting to be a total copycat, I brainstormed for a bit and came up with a new twist on using the cardboard rolls. I cut the rolls into thin strips and carefully hot glued the pieces together to form a starburst flower. Lucky for me, I already had some round mirrors in my crafting supplies so I simply crafted the starburst around the mirror. I'm quite pleased with the way it turned out but I'm contemplating what color to spray paint the cardboard. I kind of enjoy its au natural look right now. We'll see...
I am visiting from It's so very Cheri. Your mirror is fabulous! I love that you made it out of recycled materials. It looks great au natural. I also think it would be pretty painted a shimmery gold.
ReplyDeleteCute! I love all the starburst mirrors and I love your "green" one. You did a great job thanks for linking up!
ReplyDeletethis is so cute and thrifty :) come on over and link up to MMM!
ReplyDeletethanks for the comments! I love Monday link parties! :)
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog through a link you left on another site. I LOVE THIS MIRROR and I'm so happy to know it is so "green." I'm considering making one too so I have a quick question...
ReplyDeleteHow do you hang this mirror? I'm not sure since it need to be hung from the mirror itself and not the cardboard. Seems like you could hang it from a ribbon attached to the back of the mirror, but then you could see the ribbon behind the cardboard and that might mess up the nice sunburst look. I'd love to know your hanging plan- TIA!

hi Darcie,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the compliments on my project. :)
The mirror I used actually has a little mounting disc on the back, which makes it suitable to be used with mounting hardware. Its kind of hard to explain. If you'd like, I can send you a picture of the back of the mirror via email.
Also, the mirror set I have can be bought at Target: http://www.target.com/Frameless-Circle-Mirrors-7-pc-Set/dp/B0010BCE8E/ref=sc_qi_detaillink.
thanks for the link and for getting back to me!
